A Real Spring.
Warm in the sun, freezing in the shade. April blessed us with its usual bipolar weather, but I was so glad that it didn’t just turn hot and humid and muggy and become summer too soon.
Walking the dog through town, we marvelled at the snow drops and tulips and azalea breaking out in raucous colors after the long winter.
Shad Fest is held the last weekend in April every year—Lambertville’s spring festival. It began as a celebration of the return of the shad (scientifically known as Alosa sapidissima) to the Delaware River. Like salmon, shad migrate from the ocean up freshwater rivers to spawn in the spring. For many decades, the water was too polluted, but the green movement of the 1970s helped bring them back. Now Shad Fest is a big party with food trucks, vendors, and an amazing poster auction that brings in thousands of dollars every year for student art scholarships. And this year, I submitted a poster…and had my own booth!
The Founding Fish…by Allison Kopicki
The poster got in a slight bidding war in the silent auction and raised $300 (thanks, Derek!).
Saturday of the festival was cold, cold, cold, so cold, and rainy. Sunday started out cold and ended up sunny and warm. I sold many many many cards and saw lots of friends. I was very proud of being able to handle the credit card scanner and ring up sales like an old pro!! Thanks to everyone who came out and supported me!!
